Canine Massage Diploma

Course Structure

The tuition received will be primarily from the Lead Practitioner Julia Robertson; when appropriate other professionals such as leading a Veterinary Surgeon, Andy Mead BVetMed MRCVS from Arun Veterinary Centre, and Sarah Dover McCarthy Corrective Exercise and Specialist Physical Therapist will also give high quality practical and theoretical training.

The first part of the course consists of five theory units covering relevant areas of some Human and predominantly Canine Anatomy and Physiology which is carried out in the style of a distance learning/home study course.

Once Students have completed their theory sections they are then required to complete practical workshops over four weekends, each of which lasts two days and there is a four week gap in-between, so as to allow for case study work.

Enrolment & length of study

You can enrol at any time and complete the home study section of the course. For the practical workshops, please view our course details section or our forthcoming dates.

The course has been designed for students who wish to study alongside full time work, therefore with this scenario, the theory and practical units generally take an individual about 14 to 18 months.

If however a student needs to also take the introductory course (i.e. Introduction to Canine Anatomy and Physiology ), this adds another 3 to 6 months. Obviously it all depends on the number of hours dedicated to study; the standard expected is high.

General information

  • Assessment for both theory and practical is evidence based
  • The total number of learning hours is at least 490 (home and practical)
  • The practical course involves continual assessments i.e. written tests, identification of structures and muscles, group work, hands-on assessments and culminates with a practical evaluation and Vet viva
  • All work provided by students will be moderated for quality and standards of both tutors and students by an external moderator
  • Successful students will receive a Galen Therapy Centre Diploma and also a OCN accreditation certificate documenting 49 individual credits
