‘Josh went from a lively active dog that enjoyed obedience training and Agility , to a noise sensitive dog who refused to go out, looked generally fed up and depressed and who just wanted to lay around and hide behind a chair. Neither his vet or a behaviourist could determine what was wrong with Josh. We new Caroline did Myotherapy treatment and thought that the treatment might de-stress him.

As soon as Caroline run her hands over Josh it became clear he was in some pain and discomfort. What we thought was Josh being stubborn and refusing to have his collar on because he didn’t want to go out – actually turned out to be a chronic neck problem causing pain and discomfort.

After a couple of treatment sessions, Josh was more like his old self; playing and shaking his toys, playing with other dogs and wanting to go out again.

Caroline has given us our happy, playful, clever, confident dog back. We were so worried about him but know we are really happy with his progress’

“Geordie had an ongoing soft tissue problem that started a few years ago. He’d completed several courses of medication from the vet and although he responded well to this at first, it was beginning to have no affevct and he was limping and in pain most of the time.

I’d heard about Galen Therapy from a friend who’d had one of her dogs treated with great results.

Geordie really enjoyed the treatment, and after only the second session became well again. He became more active and puppy like in his play with humans and other dogs. I’m really pleased to say that no limping has reoccurred.

Geordie is an assistance dog who comes everywhere with me. While he was limping, I had to restrict what I did and where I went so I didn’t make the pain worse. Now Geordie is able to do his usual daily chores and walks and seems to be enjoying himself more generally.

I’m happier that he doesn’t have to keep taking medication and that he can continue working and is in good health”.

This is Duke, who I see on a regular basis for Myotherapy and Therapeutic Exercise.

In 2009, Duke suffered a Fibrocartilaginous Embolism of the spine (FCE) which is a functional equivalent of a stroke to the spinal cord rather than to the brain and caused by tiny fragments of intervertebral disc material getting into, and blocking a blood vessel supplying the spinal cord.

Duke suffered the FCE after landing heavily on his side having jumped up into the air to catch a Bee! His clinical signs for FCE were sudden and he was paralysed in both back legs. He was rushed to the nearest Veterinary Hospital where he underwent a series of tests and a diagnosis made.

Duke has continued to make slow but steady progress over the last couple of years, and although he continues to walk with a wobbly gait, he is a happy, boisterous GSD, who gets around just fine and who of course, loves his Kong!

Surprisingly, this condition is quite common in dogs and although there is no real treatment, physical therapy has been shown to influence favourable recovery.

Geordie is a very special dog as he is a ‘Canine Partner’

I see and treat Geordie on a regular basis as although he is 13 ½ years young, he is still very much an active assistance dog who enjoys walks in the Park, shopping and helping his owner do the types of things you and I take for granted.

As you might expect, at nearly 14 years of age Geordie does have a touch of Arthritis in his joints and gets a little stiff in his back legs. Treatment helps reduce the affects of his arthritis, eases any compensatory tension in other parts of his body and gives him an hour ‘off’ work, where he can relax and have some ‘down’ time.

Caroline's care, professionalism and above all her understanding of Duke and his condition gave me much needed hope when I feared I was going to lose my best friend Duke.

Duke suffered a spinal injury which initially left him paralysed in his back legs. Following emergency treatment at Queen Elizabeth’s Veterinary Hospital, he slowly began to walk again.

He underwent a course of Hydrotherapy at Animal Ark Veterinary Centre in Essex who suggested Duke might benefit from Myotherapy Treatment. Duke is a typical German Shepherd, very vocal, and considering what he had been through, a nervous dog.

From day one Caroline put both me and my dog at ease. Duke loved the treatment and after only a few sessions, his stance was much higher, movement in his hind legs improved and he could wag his tail! I felt hope for the first time in three months that Duke had a chance of living a normal life.

Caroline’s care, professionalism and above all her understanding of Duke and his condition gave me much needed hope when I feared I was going to lose my best friend Duke.

Invaluable – that’s what Galen has been to me an my dog. Thank you.
