The aim of this course is to give owners a guide to first aid for dogs and provide practical instruction for treating minor cuts and ailments. It can also give the handler an insight into potentially problematic conditions that need immediate veterinary care and those that can be managed at home.
This course is taught by a Galen Trainer and a leading Veterinary Surgeon and is accredited by the Open College Network (OCN).


- Managing cuts and bleeding
- Different types of wound management i.e. puncture, cut, graze
- Stings and bites (snake)
- Ticks and their safe removal
- Epilepsy and management during a fit
- Poisons
- Soft tissue/muscular injury
- Hyperthermia – and managing ‘overheating’
- Identifying symptoms: bloat, choking, fractures

- Bandaging
- Checking vital signs – pulse, respiration
- Supporting/carrying and isolating injury i.e. fracture management
- CPR (cardio-respiratory resuscitation)

There is an OCN accreditation available on this course for anyone who feels it would benefit them as an individual or as a canine professional i.e. massage therapists, trainers, groomers, hydro-therapists etc... A supplementary charge
of £45 will be required for this accreditation and an additional
