Introduction to Canine Massage
This workshop is mainly a practical session and is intended to introduce both handler and their dog’s to the benefits of massage.
It is primarily for those who have no massage experience or knowledge of animal anatomy.
It will give practical instruction to enable the application of one technique (effleurage), and learn a little about what is under a dog’s skin and how massage can influence this, especially in cases of arthritis and other issues effecting mobility.
The day includes;
- The benefits of massage
- How stress effects the dog and how massage helps
- Canine anatomy and comparative anatomy
- Basic information of the circulatory and lymphatic systems
- The skeletal structure of the dog
- Superficial ‘bony’ landmarks
- The main muscular groups
- How to massage your dog effectively
- Practice performing ‘passive movement’ to enhance joint health and range of movement
Please bring a pencil, paper and colouring pens and wear sensible clothes, suitable for undertaking the course. A workbook will be provided.

The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 restricts the treatment of an animal by any persons other than a qualified veterinary surgeon, and the customer acknowledges this. This workshop does not provide customers with any specific qualification to practice on any animal.
