Galen Myotherapists® are a select team of specialist trained practitioners who have completed their Galen Diploma. They work as para-professionals who use highly developed palpation skills to identify and treat all forms of muscular malfunction that can be causing pain through injury or subsequent compensatory problems, treating the cause not just the effect. By having this ability they are able to affect the best treatment protocol for recovery or management. This is something that equally applies to performance dogs or companion dogs, puppies or arthritic veterans.
A Galen Myotherapist® also educates and guides the handler to develop a greater understanding of their dog and provide them with a customised Home Recovery Programme (HRP), which is a combination of simple massage techniques and functional remedial therapy.
The treatment also provides a ‘hands on’ check on the dog’s ‘global’ muscular condition identifying areas of adhesions, scarring and a lack of integrity within the muscular system that could lead to further hitherto undiscovered potential problems.
