We are delighted to now be able to provide some in-house training in Massage techniques that are highly beneficial for dogs pre and postoperatively. These will be trained by one of our experienced Myotherapists, Pia Campbell. She will come to your practice, (times to suit your work practices) with a complete program to train the nursing team (and veterinary team as is often requested) in the application of specific massage techniques.
These techniques will then have direct practical application that will benefit dogs in care, both when hospitalised and for your disseminate to their handlers for home care. The techniques can really make a positive difference to recovery.
This programme forms a tangible way of adding to the care already being given to your patients plus earning CPD hours.
The course will include:
- Application of appropriate massage techniques (including passive movement)
- Main superficial muscle groups
- How the circulatory and lymphatic systems are effected and the implications of this in the pre and post operative dog
- Homeostasis
- Contraindications
- Joint health
- Muscular Repair

You will receive good clear in-house instruction with supporting document, full support and the opportunity of follow-up sessions available.
Comment made about the course from the Education Committee of the BVNA –
This course provides a good optional post-registration pathway for qualified Veterinary Nurses. It refreshes and deepens their knowledge of the nervous and musculoskeletal system and then provides good knowledge of massage techniques. I think this is very relevant to Veterinary Nursing and will encourage a more holistic approach to caring for patients.
Divided into parts: 3 lunch time sessions or (subject to geography) 1 x 5 hour session. Follow up sessions also available post course.
£375 per course plus £25 per nurse plus travel costs @ 30p per mile.
- 5% discount to BVNA members.
