This course is taught by a leading Veterinary Surgeon Andy Mead BVet Med MRCVS from Arun Veterinary Group and supported by Julia Robertson.
It is accredited (optional) by the Laser Learning Awards.
The aim of this course is to give owners a guide to first aid for dogs and provide practical instruction for treating minor cuts and ailments.
It can also give the handler an insight into potentially problematic conditions that need immediate veterinary care and those that can be managed at home.
Accident & injury recognition and management

Bandaging a dogs leg – an important skill
- Managing cuts and bleeding
- Different types of wound management i.e. puncture, cut, grazes
- Stings and (snake) bites
- Ticks and their safe removal
- Epilepsy and management during a fit
- Poisons
- Soft tissue and muscular injury
- Hyperthermia and managing ‘overheating’
- Identifying symptoms; bloat, choking, fractures
Casualty management
- Bandaging
- Checking vital signs – pulse, respiration
- Supporting/carrying and isolating injury i.e. fracture management
- CPR (Cardio-Respiratory Resuscitation)
Laser Learning Accreditation
There is LaserLearning Awards accreditation available on this course for anyone who feels it would benefit them as an individual or as a canine professional, including massage therapists, trainers, groomers and hydro-therapists.
A supplementary charge of £55 will be required for this accreditation and an additional 3 hours home study. Further information can be provided on request.

The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 restricts the treatment of an animal by any persons other than a qualified veterinary surgeon, and the Customer acknowledges this. This workshop does not provide customers with any specific qualification to practice on any animal.
